Ooka announced as deputy at Korea distribution center

DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Macy Ooka has been announced as the newest deputy commander at DLA Distribution Korea.

Ooka most recently served as the director of DLA Distribution Guam since April of 2015 and, last year, served as acting director at DLA Distribution Hill, Utah.

Under her leadership, DLA Distribution Guam, Marianas was awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Patricia A. Kuntz Distribution Center of the Year – Small award for their outstanding support to the warfighter in the Pacific in 2016.

A Pacific Islander from the Island of Guam, Ooka has been employed with the federal government for 26 years.

She began her career during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 as a temporary GS-01 with Naval Supply Depot Security.  While there, she was promoted to a career conditional GS-03 and gained valuable experience and demonstrated increasing abilities in varied positions such as a supply technician, transportation assistant, and lead transportation assistant.

In October 2004, DLA Distribution established a distribution center in Guam and Ooka joined the DLA team as a quality assurance evaluator.  She was instrumental in standing up the distribution center and was appointed as the alternate contractor officer representative, overseeing a multi-million dollar contract with Eagle Support Services.

Ooka continued her career with DLA Distribution Guam and was tasked with various responsibilities, building her experience and knowledge.

In 2006, she assumed the accountable officer position, responsible for inventory valued in excess of $17 million.

In 2007, she was promoted to supervisory accountable officer for the Inventory Action Team, where she served until she became the organization’s deputy director and ultimately the Director in 2015.

DLA Distribution Korea provides United States Forces Korea with critical logistics capabilities including Storage and Distribution, a Theater Consolidation and Shipping Point, Transportation Planning Management, Logistics Planning and Contingency Operations, and Material Movement Tracking and Expediting.  Located on Camp Carroll in Area IV, the site is essential to the Southern Hub, the logistics backbone of unit readiness and the Warfighters’ ability to “Fight Tonight.”
