Bagram staff remembers fallen comrade

By Tim Hoyle DLA Disposition Services

Defense Logistics Agency personnel in Afghanistan took time to remember a colleague lost in a rocket attack five years ago.

Krissie Davis was deployed from regular duties at DLA Disposition Services’ site at Anniston, Alabama, when rockets struck the vehicle that was taking her to breakfast June 8, 2015, at Bagram’s dining facility. It was her second voluntary deployment.

DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon sent a message to the workforce describing Davis as “a beloved teammate” as he shared information on the brief ceremony to remember Davis. Accompanying the message were pictures and highlights from the anniversary event held by the memorial display at Bagram that honor’s Davis’ sacrifice provided by Army Lt. Col. Ryan Mendenhall, officer-in-charge for DLA Disposition Services in Afghanistan.

“One picture is of us flying the flag on Memorial Day in her honor,” Mendenhall said. “Another … is of me telling the team this morning on what happened this day five years ago along with reading the certificate. I also said a prayer with the team on her behalf and all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”

The flag and certificate from the memorials will be sent to the Anniston team to honor Davis. Other memorials of Davis include the dedication for a memorial plaque at DLA Disposition Services in Battle Creek, Michigan, and her 2016 induction into the DLA Hall of Fame

Davis gave three-decades of federal service that included jobs with the Bureau of Prisons and Department of the Army. Her DLA service began in 1993. Her first volunteer deployment came in 2010 when she offered to deploy in support of disposal operations at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan.

In his message to the workforce, Cannon asked everyone to take time today to remember Davis and “reflect on the sacrifices of all who deploy for us.”
