BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –
Franyate Taylor received a promotion to the rank of colonel during a social distanced and virtual frocking ceremony at the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center Nov. 10. Frocking often precedes a formal promotion, granting an individual the authority and responsibility of a higher rank in anticipation of an advancement.
“I can’t tell you how pleased I am to have Col. Taylor as my deputy,” DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon said as he continued to review her career highlights. “As a tribute to her outstanding performance and the career she’s had, she has already been selected for War College the year after next.”
Taylor came to Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services in July from Fort Knox, Kentucky, where she served as the commander of the 3rd Brigade Support Battalion, 409th Regiment.
Taylor is a native of Tampa, Florida, and enlisted in 1991. She was commissioned a second lieutenant of ordnance in April 1999 upon graduation from Officers Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia.
After completing the Ordnance Officer Basic Course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, she was assigned to 801st Main Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There she served as a platoon leader, shop officer and a battalion supply and services officer.
After attending the Combined Captains Career Course at Fort Lee, Virginia, and Combined Arms Services and Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, she was assigned as installation logistics officer for 409th Base Support Battalion, 100th Area Support Group. She commanded the 529th Modular Ammunition Company, where she deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After command she was the supply and services officer 18th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Grafenwóher, Germany.
Following Germany, she was assigned as the brigade maintenance officer, 1st Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Fort Polk, Louisiana, and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
From January 2011 to May 2013, Taylor served as the logistics officer for the 4th Brigade, and support operations officer for the 123rd Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Division, El Paso, Texas, with deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. She then served as the operations officer for the Red River Army Depot, Texarkana, Texas. She was as an instructor and writer for the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Taylor’s military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Air Assault School, and Support Operations Course (Phases I & II). She attended Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Her civilian education includes Taylor bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Maryland University College in 2010. In 2012, she received master’s degree from Maryland in information assurance and business administration.
Taylor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with two oak leaf clusters); the Meritorious Service Medal (with seven oak leaf clusters); the Army Commendation Medal (with seven oak leaf clusters ); the Army Achievement Medal (with five oak leaf clusters ); the Army Good Conduct Medal ( second award); the National Defense Service Medal; Afghan Campaign Medal (second award); Iraq Campaign Medal (second award); the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (second award); Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Air Assault Badge.
She is married to Lyndon Taylor of Dallas, Texas, and has two children Quincy and Brielyn.
