By Dawn Bonsell DLA Distribution Public Affairs

The general officer in charge of logistics for the Israel Defense Forces visited the largest distribution center in the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution network Dec. 6.

Brig. Gen. Nechemia Sokal, chief of staff for the technology and logistics branch of the IDF, along with other IDF senior officers, visited DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania., Dec. 6, to discuss DLA’s global logistics processes and how DLA Distribution supports foreign military sales customers.

Scott Rosbaugh, director of strategic plans at DLA Distribution headquarters, led a discussion that highlighted DLA Distribution’s worldwide network and the special functions, the command provides for all of DLA, such as kitting, hazardous-material handling and transportation coordination . The group expressed interest in learning more about radiofrequency identification tags for shipments, performance-based logistics and setting up additional exercises to increase efficiency.

To see how the distribution process works, the group visited DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s Eastern Distribution Center, the largest warehouse in the Department of Defense. The guests toured the receiving, processing, storage, retrieval and outloading operations, where they saw the supply chain in action. The tour included the organization’s key locations, including the Consolidation and Containerization Point, the high-rise storage and retrieval system and the pallet-build area for the air line of communication. The group then toured the hazardous material facility and visited DLA’s only airborne riggers at the Aerial Delivery and Textile operation.

The visit was part of DLA Distribution’s ongoing efforts to partner with warfighting customers to provide efficient, effective and best-value support.
