Law enforcement sacrifices remembered

By Press staff report The Tracy Press

The Defense Logistics Agency Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin on Chrisman Road hosted a ceremony Wednesday to mark Peace Officers Memorial Day. The DLA police force, led by Chief Khalid Ali and depot commander Col. Andre Harrell, invited members of the Tracy Police Department, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies to participate in the service.

“We’d like to acknowledge and express our appreciation for their selfless sacrifice and dedication,” Harrell said of police officers. “There is no greater occupation or vocation then service to your community or country.”

Near the close of the ceremony, the names of 12 California officers, including a K-9 with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, were read, and a bell was rung for each name. The memorial concluded with the playing of taps and a bagpipe tune called “Balmoral” — also known as “When the Battle’s O’er.”
