Distribution Leaders participate in BYR2S 2019

By Debra McBeath, Distribution Change Management Officer

The Defense Logistics Agency hosted the 2019 Building Your Roadmap to Success Leadership Forum May 7-10, 2019 at DLA headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as an opportunity to inspire, develop and motivate our next generation of leaders at DLA. The program aligns to both the DLA Strategic Plan 2018-2026 and People and Culture Plan and provides personal and professional development.

The 2019 theme was “Aspire, Engage, Learn” and offered both large group information sessions and small group workshops such as:  The Art of Followership; Communication & Collaboration; Working Through Silos; Virtual Teaming & Building Strategic Teams and The Role of Emotional Intelligence. The BYR2S Leadership Forum is designed for DLA civilian employees who are interested in growing in DLA.  DLA Distribution had 12 senior leaders participate in this year’s forum.

“The opportunity to talk with the panelists after each presentation was very informative. Many times organizations have leadership conferences but the leaders are nowhere to be found for sidebar discussions. This is where the real magic happens because people can discuss how your high level engagement in this program has inspired them, especially the SES panel with Mr. Dave Rodriguez,” said Yvette Harris, DLA Distribution EEO Director.

“The BYR2S conference provided a unique opportunity to participate in leadership training with my peers across the DLA Enterprise,” said Margaret Ross, DLA Distribution Acquisition Operations.  “It is rare that we are able to sit with other leaders who experience similar situations and share ideas on improving ourselves as leaders. I was able to immediately institute concepts discussed during the conference, specifically in the areas of communication and collaboration which were key topics highlighted throughout the training sessions.”
