NORFOLK, Va. –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, hosted Navy Rear Adm. Peter Stamatopoulos, commander, Naval Supply Systems Command/Chief of Supply Corps, during a visit to the organization July 28.
Stamatopoulos, along with Navy Rear Adm. Joseph 'Doug' Noble, Jr., commander, Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support, and Kurt Wendelken, Senior Executive Service, vice commander and senior civilian of NAVSUP, received an overview of DDNV’s operation by DDNV Commander, Navy Capt. Tommy Neville, who also introduced them to some of the team and gave them an opportunity to hear about DDNV efforts to strengthen their partnership with NAVSUP in accordance with the DLA Strategic Plan.
“We spent time discussing DDNV’s operational support to the warfighter and discussed not only our fleet support through our material processing center, but our global support to Central Command, European Command and Africa Command through our containerization consolidation point operations and our global distribution network,” said Neville.
Stamatopoulos was interested in DDNV’s role in the COVID-19 emergency response said Neville, who highlighted DDNV’s COVID-19 specific efforts with U.S. Navy ships USNS Comfort, USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz.
Additionally, Neville shared DDNV’s distribution victories with test kits, face coverings, thermometers, MREs and general medical supplies. He also discussed details of how DLA Distribution is executing audit in the COVID-19 environment and how DDNV has executed audit over the past few years that has now resulted in 98% inventory accuracy.
Neville said the visit was a great opportunity to showcase the work and effort of the DDNV Team. “I’m immensely proud of the men and women at DDNV, who have been grinding every day, in person in support of the Warfighter during these challenging times in America. The visit by the NAVSUP commander allowed us to highlight our people and provided a lift to morale.”
