NORFOLK, Va. –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Virginia, employees loaded vital equipment July 23 onto the Ocean Gladiator out of New Orleans, Louisiana, in support of Operation Pacer Goose, the annual resupply of support items destined for Thule Air Base, Greenland.
The DDNV team, along with help from the Military Sealift Command and Navy Cargo Handling Battalions 1 & 5, uploaded 22 containers of refrigerators, hazardous material, dish washers, frozen and dry foods. Cargo Handling Battalion 5 performed the risk assessment and provided external support. This operation provides vital supplies to people stationed on Thule Air Base to complete their mission and survive the coming winter.
“The annual success of Pacer Goose truly is a direct result of the combined efforts of our employees and their ability to work with our joint DoD partners,” said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Robert Dogget, DDNV chief staff officer.
The team worked tirelessly through the weekend of July 23 and 24, with DDNV answering the bell throughout delays and mechanical issues, which pushed operations well into Saturday evening. The upload operation completed Sunday afternoon and DDNV employees are prepared to unload the material sent back from Thule Air Base when the Ocean Gladiator returns the week of August 22.
Thule Air Base, the DoD's northernmost installation, is now part of Space Base Delta 1, under the command of Space Force Col. David Hanson. Thule has a “Top of the World” vantage point supporting missile warning, missile defense and space surveillance missions.
