NEW LONDON, Connecticut –
As part of the Groton ROCKS program, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brett Sandman, assistant site director of DLA Distribution Norfolk, Va., at New London, Conn., recently spoke to children from Northeast Academy, who were honored for their achievements through the program.
Groton ROCKS, which stands for Recognizing our Children’s Kindness and Safety, honors students for their exceptional behavior, attitude, kindness, and helpfulness. Children in grades kindergarten through fifth are nominated by staff at their school to be honored with a special lunch with community leaders.
"DLA Distribution prides itself on going above and beyond, so it was great to recognize some truly special kids," said Sandman.
SUBASE New London seeks local Navy leaders to attend each school’s event, and provides an opportunity for local commands to connect with the community. Sandman was selected for the Northeast Academy event, and presented the children with certificates of appreciation on behalf of the SUBASE New London commanding officer, Navy Capt. Carl Lahti.
"The young students I met are shining examples that commitment, dedication, and positive behaviors make a difference," concluded Sandman.
