Vehicles Prepped for Shipment
Even in the early days of World War II, the then-named Columbus General Depot had begun to play a key role in the Army’s supply system. In December 1942, the government purchased an additional 295 acres, expanding the depot to 576 acres, as storage space grew to almost 13.5 million square feet in 41 warehouses, 64 supplementary structures and open storage areas – like the lot pictured here were vehicles were prepped for shipment overseas.
