Forward presence spotlight: Royal Cline

By Dana Thornbury DLA Land and Mairitime Public Affairs

Meet Royal Cline: Customer Service Representative

Located at San Diego, California

  • How long have you worked for DLA Land and Maritime? Almost 15 years
  • Who are the customers you serve? I primarily serve the surface fleet but I also serve carriers, U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command, expeditionary units, shipyards and industrial sites in the Pacific Ocean area of operations.
  • How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t know DLA? My job as an embedded customer support representative is twofold. First, I provide direct Defense Logistics Agency representation to all Navy supply officers and logistical specialists and answer queries about DLA-managed material, processes, etc. Second, I provide direct advocacy support to supply officers ordering DLA-managed material where they need support from somebody working within the lifelines of DLA for various reasons such as emergent, critical material, out-of-stock material, etc.
  • What’s the most rewarding part of your job? The most rewarding part of my job is being able to work directly with the young men and women of the U.S. Navy and seeing the results on a daily basis.
  • What are your best memories of working here? I started out in Columbus with DLA Maritime and was the customer account specialist intern instructor prior to leaving. So, I would say my best memory is seeing my interns develop into leaders within DLA Maritime, which I get see almost every day.
