Move in dates for DLA Aviation Operations Center right around the corner

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Close to three years after construction began on Phase I of the new 252,000 square-foot, five-story glass and brick Defense Logistics Agency Aviation Operations Center, tentative move in dates have been set.

DLA Aviation’s Customer Operations Directorate is slated to move in first. The directorate is tentatively scheduled to move from Building 32 M and L Bays into the new building beginning June 11, and will be located on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Over the next month, the Procurement Process, Business Process and Command Support Directorates, DLA Training, DLA Human Resources Services, the Base Supply Store, as well as the new dining facility and Tickets & More operated by Morale, Welfare and Recreation, will also move in. The last move in is tentatively scheduled for July 6th. Click here for the full schedule.

In all, approximately 875 employees will occupy the new operations center once everyone is moved in as part of Phase I.

Phase I is equipped with 252 geothermal wells, measuring 500-feet deep each. They will serve as an energy efficient, environmentally friendly heating and cooling system designed to lower energy costs, which supports the DLA goal of Financial Stewardship by delivering the right solutions that will reduce operating and materials costs, thus saving the taxpayer money.

The building consists of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, equipped with motion sensors in the passageways and open office areas in order to provide additional energy savings.

Additional, even more energy savings will come from the domestic solar water heater.
