Thomas receives outstanding DLA Personnel of the Year Award

By Natalie Skelton, DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Rozenia Thomas, a Defense Logistics Agency Aviation materials expediter who works at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, was honored as the Outstanding Defense Logistics Agency Person of the Year during a ceremony held Dec. 6 at DLA Headquarters, Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Thomas supports the 402nd Electronics Maintenance Group at Robins AFB and was recognized for her support of the 566th and 569th Electronics Maintenance Squadrons in three key areas. On a given day she is responsible for providing any or all of the following: assets from the local depot; processing of transactions for accountability; pick-up of serviceable and unserviceable turn-in materials; operation of material handling equipment for loading and unloading cargo; and separating material according to priority and control item codes.

Charles Lilli, deputy commander, DLA Aviation, said Ms. Thomas’s daily support of the 402nd was exceptional, steadfast and tireless. The nomination stated, “She not only provided superb customer support but also worked efficiently as a team member.”

The nomination packet submitted on Thomas’s behalf highlighted the accomplishments as a team member, to include her instrumental role in the complex reorganization of one of the forward-located Shop Service Centers, located in a secure complex. Her experience and expertise were invaluable and a key component of the project’s success. As a result of the reorganization, the Shop Service Center’s storage space for line items saw an 85% increase within the same footprint.

The nomination said the systematic process of this reorganization, as well as attention to detail in stowing and picking of material, was instrumental in the inventory accuracy rate of 97.7% during the year. The importance of having common use items located adjacent to the customer cannot be overstated.  The issuing of these high-use items to the customer was minutes versus hours from the local DLA Distribution warehouses. The delivery response time metric of 90% within 1.5 hours was met during all 12 months.

Thomas’s previous recognition includes the Directorate Strategic Goals Award in March, within the category: “Always Accountable: Assured Supply Chain, Financial and Process Excellence.” Her precise input of more than 48,000 transactions into the Distribution Storage System, as well as her accountability and physical control over hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of reparable assets, had a direct impact on the customer’s mission success.

“Ms. Thomas’s dedication to duty and team accountability make her a role model and ambassador of DLA Core Values. Her enthusiastic can-do attitude is contagious to those around her. Rozenia Thomas’s team spirit, high energy, and awesome Warfighter support maker her well deserving of this recognition,” said Lilli.
