Leadership and guests at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest, in San Diego, California and Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at San Diego observed Women's History Month with a digital exhibit, "Heroines on the Homefront" and guest speaker Mar. 27.
DLA Aviation at San Diego’s Special Emphasis Program team collaborated with the Culture Committee to unveil the exhibit provided by the San Diego based Women’s Museum of California.
Navy Rear Adm. Yvette Davids, chief of staff, United States Southern Command, headquartered in Miami, Florida, served as the keynote speaker. Davids is the first Hispanic female in Navy history to command a warship. She also received the Mexican American Women’s National Association National Latina Organization's “Las Primeras” honor in 2008.
During her speech, Davids expressed admiration for the exhibit's emphasis on the role women played in aircraft manufacturing in San Diego during World War II. She also encouraged those in attendance to continue participating in events like this so "everyone can remember where we come from; be inspired, and learn something new to improve the future of women in our military services."
