NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna recently hosted a force protection lecture series which highlighted active shooter response teams, featuring guest speaker Derrick Boucher, FBI supervisory special agent-in-charge of the Philadelphia Division’s Harrisburg field office.
Timothy Moore, Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna’s anti-terrorism officer, introduced the event. Rob Montefour, Installation Support at Susquehanna site director, provided opening remarks, and discussed the importance of emergency preparedness through education and application.
Following the opening remarks, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., commander Army Col. Corey New addressed the audience and explained the need for trust and dependence on installation security subject matter experts. He indicated that although Susquehanna has been fortunate to not have experienced an active shooter incident, perhaps it is because of the diligence of security experts and vigilance of personnel assigned to the installation.
Boucher then spoke about active shooter incidents and the importance of response team action. He shared statistics and introduced the short film, “The Coming Storm.” The film dramatized an active shooter incident at an American university, and emphasized how to manage an event, which includes taking witness interviews, setting up family assistance centers, speaking with media, providing unified police action, and providing survivor support.
Following the film, installation security experts Henry Hoffman, fire chief, Doug Schraeder, police chief, and Dave Koons, chief security manager, discussed their roles and fielded questions.
Amy Snyder, deputy chief for security and emergency services, closed out the lecture series by encouraging everyone to reflect upon, take back, and share the information with others.
