Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Alyssa Vacho has received the 2014 Global Distribution Excellence: Materiel Management Enlisted Member of the Year award for her unprecedented performance, dedication and commitment while serving as a logistics specialist within the Warehouse Division at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan.

“Her performance can be summed-up in just one word—Superstar!” said Navy Cmdr. Brian Johnson, the distribution center’s commander.  Vacho is a key player in sustaining the distribution center’s optimal logistic readiness state, with a diversified workforce of Sailors, civilian employees, and Japanese Master Labor Contract employees, in support of 120 forward-deployed Navy and Marine expeditionary forces operating throughout the Pacific Area of Responsibility.

As the Care of Stock in Storage manager, Vacho inspected the packaging condition of over 3,500 line items of surface/aviation repairable components worth over $60 million, maintaining a 100 percent ready-for-issue rate at all times.  She assisted in managing the pre-positioned stock of over 45,000 line items, including cold chain materials and ammunition parts, valued in excess of $280 million while sustaining 100 percent location/inventory validity rate in six storage facilities.

Vacho also processed over 8,000 material release orders with an on-time shipment rate of 99 percent for high-priority deliveries.  Her customer service to the warfighter contributed to the successful completion of the 2014 Valiant Shield Exercise, which included two carrier strike groups, 200 aircraft, 25 amphibious expeditionary units, and 19,000 ground troops.

Additionally, Vacho accurately assessed the shelf-life of 600 pieces of stock asset, researched over 250 items of requisition with supply/shipment discrepancies, tracked the delivery of 400 doses of flu vaccines to 25 afloat/shore activities, and successfully issued more than 350 pieces of geospatial maps.

As member of the Morale Entertainment Advisory Council, Vacho actively participated in many fundraising events, resulting in support of the Single-Sailor Thanksgiving luncheon, children’s holiday party, and the DLA Distribution Yokosuka holiday party.  She devoted more than 60 hours as a volunteer at USO, Red Cross, and CFAY Friendship events.  She coordinated a meaningful outreach program at Kamakura’s Orphanage Home, providing joy, inspiration, and smiles to 35 Japanese children.  As the voting assistance officer, she orchestrated a training program on absentee voting processes and related resources.

“Petty Officer 3rd Class Vacho’s contributions are instrumental in DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, achieving its main mission: serving the frontline warfighter deployed worldwide,” said Johnson.
