Pearl Harbor’s Santiago awarded Commander’s Mission Impact Award

Eric Santiago, accountable property officer at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, has been awarded the Commander’s Mission Impact Award for first quarter fiscal year 2016.

“Mr. Santiago’s resourcefulness, attention to detail and ability to plan, program, and accurately manage accountable property has proven invaluable to Distribution’s ability to support the Pacific warfighters,” said Thomas Dillon, DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor deputy commander.

Santiago is responsible for the management of DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor’s $12.7 million account, providing cradle-to-grave accountability, and technical oversight of capital and non-capital assets supporting 175 employees in 22 geographically-separated facilities.  “Within three months of assuming APO responsibilities, Mr. Santiago reinvigorated the program, synchronizing property and production requirements as well as capturing future mission changes,” said Dillon.

As part of his duties, Santiago trained eight newly-assigned hand receipt holders and segregated accounts into appropriate business segments.  Additionally, he conducted a 100 percent floor-to-book inventory, providing accurate capital and non-capital lifecycle forecasting.  As a result of Santiago’s positive program oversight, he was appointed as Distribution's APO liaison for the Pacific region.

In addition to his significant APO responsibilities, Santiago assumed oversight of two equipment maintenance contracts valued at $500,000, which includes contracting officer's representative duties and commensurate training.  He took direct control of fleet management and dispatch duties, ensuring fleet rotation and enhanced utilization.  Santiago was responsible for analyzing and preparing the distribution center’s non-capital vehicle requirements and resolving resource gaps in warehouse conveyance.

“Mr. Santiago not only demonstrates flawless performance as an APO, but also an unparalleled dedication,” said Dillon.  “His selflessness is a primary reason DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor is able to accomplish the mission!”
