RICHMOND, Va. –
Richard McGrory received the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation April Employee of the Month award for spearheading and aligning DLA Aviation at Jacksonville with “Better Buying Power concepts and practices.” DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day congratulated McGrory during a video teleconference award ceremony held from Richmond, Virginia, June 8.
McGrory, a materiel planner, who works in Jacksonville, Florida, in the DLA Aviation Customer Operations Directorate’s Industrial Planning and Support, Aircraft and Components Cell, works with internal and external customers on a daily basis. During April, his collaborative efforts with commercial industry resulted in vendor price breaks optimizing a cost saving in excess of $257,000.
Bradley Shepherd, McGrory’s supervisor and his cell chief, nominated him for the award.
“A renowned materiel planner, Richard collaborates daily with the customer service supervisors, demand planners and sustainment specialists,” said Shepherd. “He possesses an incalculable level of knowledge to identify and offer viable technical solutions to encompass safety stock, replacement factors and inspired quantum increases to the Gross Demand Plan.” Shepherd mentioned other notable actions by McGrory in the nomination packet he submitted for him to include his superior ability to use DLA and Navy systems in identifying and forecasting stock requirements.
McGrory was a little surprised and embarrassed to receive the award. He attributes his selection to his passion for the mission and supporting our warfighters.
“We all work so well together as a team here in Jacksonville; it's a little hard for me to accept an individual award, but, I really do appreciate it,”he said. “Our combined efforts really do make a difference. Our team/cross process approach to this support is the key to our success.”
Shepherd also spoke of McGrory as a “key orchestrator” in holding knowledge transfer sessions that have practical applications.
“Richard infuses enthusiasm with best practice solutions within the planning section and his team-building efforts lead to cohesiveness within DLA Aviation at Jacksonville,” said Shepherd.
