Description:

The DLA Land and Maritime Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) African American Employment Program (AAEP) is sponsoring the 29th Annual Defense Federal Community Carter G. Woodson (CGW) Award. Nominations are being solicited from all Directorates and Offices of the Columbus Defense Federal community, DLA Land and Maritime detachments and the Central Ohio community.

Since National Black/African-American History Month represents a time to celebrate the importance of African Americans’ contributions to our society as well as a reminder of the struggle for equality, this honorary award is the perfect opportunity to recognize individuals who are making a positive difference.

The Annual Carter G. Woodson Award serves to recognize two individuals. The first award will be presented to a military or civilian member of the Defense Federal Community who has made significant contributions to the African American community, and the second award will honor an individual from the Central Ohio community at large for outstanding contributions.

The awardees will be selected based on the criteria outlined in the attached nomination form and recognized during the 2018 National Black/African-American History Month celebration, scheduled for February 2018. Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) founded by Dr. Woodson, sets the Black/African-American History Month themes.

Incomplete, insufficient, and late packages will not be considered. A package is deemed incomplete and insufficient if it contains typographical and grammatical errors, does not address the award criteria, is submitted after the stated suspense date of December 15, 2017 in the required and above stated format, and does not contain all required documents.

All nominations must be submitted no later than COB December 15, 2017 in final form to: DLALandandMaritimeEEOSEP@dla.mil.

Requests for assistance or questions concerning this award should be directed to Ms. Dwan Buford, DLA Land and Maritime EEO African-American Employment Program Chair, (614) 692-9502 or Ms. Lametra Dulaney, Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) & Diversity staff member, at (614) 692-2577.
