Employee Spotlight: Morgan Smith

By DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Name: Morgan Smith

Organization: DLA Aviation's Supplier Operations Commodities Directorate's Post-Award Division

Years of Service: 2 years

What is your job title and what do you do specifically? I’m a post award contract specialist. I work to resolve post-award requests on contracts involving life support/critical safety items. I am responsible for everything that happens to a contract after it has been awarded i.e., issuing modifications, monitoring performance and managing changes etc.

What do like most about your job and why? What I love most about my job is that every day I face a new challenge. Each request I receive is a little bit different and requires unique research and collaboration to find a resolution. I have a wonderful leadership team as well as knowledgeable peers I can lean on to talk through difficult issues and brainstorm solutions with. I also love the culture and team atmosphere here at DLA. My team is a big reason why I look forward to going to work every day. We all work together to support the warfighter and manage to have some fun along the way!

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? I would tell them I do my job everyday with you in mind. With a husband in the military, I know how important it is for you to receive quality material on time. For this reason, I work tirelessly to make sure this happens. If you receive parachutes, harnesses, or any other critical safety/ life support items administered by DLA Richmond, rest assured, it has been well tested and SAFE!

Professionally, where do you see yourself five years from now? In five years, I see myself here at DLA. I want to continue growing and learning through additional certifications so that I can become more versatile in the contracting field. I will gain more experience so that I can pass along my knowledge just as so many DLA team members have done for me. I would really like to be in a position where I can make a broad impact on the organization and help the warfighter in a larger capacity.

What are some of your passions outside of work? My husband and I have a four month old daughter and a four year old golden retriever that keeps us busy! We are always on the go and like spending time in the outdoors. Recently, our outdoor adventures have been confined to hanging out in the backyard, but we are enjoying every second with our new buddle of joy!
