Employee Spotlight: Ericka Tyson

By Pam Smith, DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Employee spotlight regularly features outstanding non-supervisory personnel from throughout the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation and other DLA employees on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Organizational directors may submit names of employees they wish to feature in this column to DLA Aviation Public Affairs.

Name: Ericka Tyson

Organization: DLA Aviation’s Supplier Operations Commodities Directorate’s Post Award Division

Years of service: 18 months

What is your job title and what do you do specifically? As a post award contracting officer I review, reconcile, and adjust contracts. I do what is needed to close out the award and assure proper delivery of material to the warfighter.

What do you like most about your job? I like knowing that I am taking care of my brothers and sisters in arms daily. It’s a true honor being able to serve, provide support and help ensure the mission succeeds.

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? I would say thank you for all that you do and know that I am always here for you!

Professionally, where do you see yourself five years from now?  With only one more year until retirement from the U.S. Army Reserve, I foresee becoming a supervisor in the future as part of my civilian career.

What are some of your passions outside of work?  I truly enjoy being a 1stSgt in the Army Reserves.

What’s the most thrilling/adventurous thing you have ever done? My most thrilling moments have been while training in the army. I participated in a 15-mile road march carrying full battle gear, which is an exercise used to practice troop movement on foot. I also repelled down ropes from the top of a 64-foot tower. Both training events gave me a sense that I could accomplish anything!
