By Bonnie Koenig DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Jacksonville employee David Scott was honored as the January 2016 Employee of the Month in a ceremony March 16. Scott works as an equipment specialist in the DLA Aviation Customer Operations Directorate on the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida.

DLA Aviation Commander Air Force’s Brig. Gen. Allan Day hosted the ceremony from DLA Aviation headquarters in Richmond by video teleconference.

Scott has been employed at DLA Aviation for three years. Prior to that he served 25 years in the Navy and retired as a senior chief petty officer. During his military service he worked with aircraft squadrons and aviation support activities.

Scott was nominated by DLA Aviation at Jacksonville’s Customer Operations Directorate’s Plant Maintenance and Manufacturing Supervisor Richard Adderly, who wrote in the nomination packet that Scott demonstrated superior performance, exemplary leadership, and teamwork. He added, Scott also defined and executed value by addressing the DLA Aviation Manufacturing Release Strategy Workflow projects to improve process requests with the master technology data, resulting in reducing costs to Fleet Readiness Center Southeast and DLA Aviation.

Adderly said Scott also showed exemplary skills working with FRCSE personnel and the DLA aircraft material support team members in identifying and obtaining approval for additional material for the Technical Operations Review Codes (TORC) program. He added, Scott oversaw updates to the program and took immediate action to resolve critical issues ensuring there were no delays in the F/A-18 fighter program. Scott’s efforts reduced backorders and streamlined the TORC program with superior validating documentation.

Day presented Scott with the award certificate, a commander’s coin, and a check for $700. The award also included a reserved parking space (for one month).

Scott said his successes were driven from customer feedback and support from co-workers, and by watching the current metrics to measure where improvements were needed.

In an earlier interview, Scott said he enjoyed his job and is proud to be directly supporting the warfighters by making sure they have the best aircraft, vehicles, and equipment they need to do their jobs. He added DLA has provided him with opportunities and classes that have helped him develop in the technical aspects of his job.
