DLA Troop Support hosts health fair to prepare for open season

By Shaun Eagan DLA Troop Support Public Affairs

More than 1,000 Naval Support Activity Philadelphia employees prepared for the 2018 Federal Benefits Open Season by attending a health fair hosted by the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Nov. 1.

A DLA Human Resources Services Benefits team and health care vendors were available to provide information on plans and coverages.

“This is the time when employees can get in and really do some research on their current health plan, vision and dental enrollment, and see what other options are out there,” Scott Kopp, DLA HRS Benefits supervisor, said. “[Employees] can make any changes they may need or wish to make for themselves and their families.”

The benefits team and vendors shared information on options for the Federal Flexible Spending Account Program, the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program and the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

Open season is a period when federal employees can make changes to their health, dental and vision plans. This year’s open season is from Nov. 10 to Dec. 12. Changes in enrollments will not be available until Jan. 6, 2019.

Kopp said this year’s open season includes an expanded use of technology.

Employees will be able to make most changes and updates through the Government, Retirement and Benefits Platform. The website offers employees a “much more convenient and time-saving” way to address benefit and potential retirement needs.

William Fulforth, a DLA HRS labor relations specialist, said employees planning to make changes should know their options.

“It’s important for employees to do their research when selecting a health plan so that they know and understand the differences between healthcare providers and can ensure that they select the plan that will best suit their needs,” Fulforth said.
