By Missy Wright DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Sandra Stephens, supply technician at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Anniston, Ala., has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Inventory Management Civilian of the Year award for her knowledge and technical expertise within the Inventory Action Team.

Stephens shouldered a surmountable part of the workload, while simultaneously conquering the daily demands of her inventory duties.  With Stephens’ assistance, the Inventory Action Team completed the all inventories on schedule.

According to deputy commander, Guy Taylor, “As a dedicated, loyal and dependable employee, Stephens’ selfless service and professional performance was a definable attribute to the success of the DLA Distribution Anniston’s Inventory Action Team”. She performed over 5,000 inventories, with over 14,000 national stock numbers and a total dollar value of more than $187 million. Also, she performed floor to file inspections and checks associated with over 2,000 locations across 10 separate storage areas, while maintaining and inspecting all pieces of IAT's Material Handling Equipment with 100 percent accuracy.

“Stephens’ knowledge of inventory, receiving, warehousing and Distribution Standard System functions has been instrumental in teaching and mentoring new employees, contributing to the success of DLA Distribution Anniston,” said Taylor. Stephens’ expertise has allowed DLA Distribution Anniston to meet DLA’s goal rating for the Sample Controlled, inventories of the year.

Additionally, Stephens helped to implement and improve the process for inventory management to increase organizational inventory accuracy and decrease DLA Distribution Anniston’s denial rate. Her research and audit knowledge, as well as using Electronic Document Management Service, resulted in the Inventory Action Team researching, tracking and correcting inventory shortages and overages.
