NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
As Hurricane Dorian gathered strength heading toward the Florida coastline, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution deployed its expeditionary distribution team to serve as incident staging bases in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the region. This expeditionary distribution capability gave FEMA significant responsiveness and flexibility to flow critical relief supplies, to include food, water, fuel, and generators, to the impacted areas.
While the DDXX teams were onsite at the two FEMA designated ISB’s, they received over 600 trucks at the Maxwell ISB bearing over 500,000 shelf stable meals to be distributed to communities in Hurricane Dorian’s path, while the DDXX team at Fort Bragg received close to 300 trucks bearing over 500,000 shelf stable meals.
Most recently, as Hurricane Dorian passed by Virginia over the weekend and tracked eastward into the Atlantic Ocean, the DDXX teams located at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama and Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, North Carolina, were directed by FEMA to hand-over the incident staging bases to FEMA personnel. FEMA continues to reposition assets to support areas most affected by Hurricane Dorian .
As soon as the orders came through to demobilize, DDXX team members worked swiftly, utilizing a base 15,000-pound forklift to assist in a rapid redeployment out load at the ISB at Maxwell Air Force Base Sept. 7. The 20-person DDXX teams have been at Maxwell and Fort Bragg ISBs supporting Hurricane Dorian recovery operations for the past week.
