Resiliency fair hosts vendors Covering four pillars

DLA Land and Maritime People and Culture

Nineteen local agencies, state and federal resources along with a couple of nonprofit organizations were on site at the Defense Supply Center Columbus Sept. 25th sharing planning and resource information with DSCC associates.  The following organizations were present:  Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Fitness Center, Cafe 20 and Family Advocacy Program, Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime's Employee Assistance Program and Sexual Assault Prevention, National Alliance on Mental Health for Franklin County, Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors, The Ohio State University, Ohio Attorney General’s Elder Justice Unit, Ohio Department of Aging, Social Security Administration, DLA Human Resources Retirement Benefits team, Financial Peace University, Celebrate Recovery, Ohio Council for Cognitive Health, Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Chaplain Liaison Program, DLA Installation Management's Emergency Management, Wellness Council and the People and Culture Directorate.

“Nearly 200 people attended this year’s event in a steady stream for the full two hours,” said DLA Land and Maritime Resiliency Program Manager Brenda Minnema. “Even if we only helped one person find the help they needed, it was a success.  I enjoy putting on these events where so many people receive help they need.”

The Resiliency Resource Fair was held in the Building 20 Buckeye and Cardinal Rooms between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  Associates attending the fair came from across DLA Land and Maritime, Human Resources, Training, Installation Management, J-6, J-8, Defense Information Systems Agency, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, Department of Defense Human Resources and other organizations to visit with agency representatives.

"Thank you ever so much for including the Ohio Council for Cognitive Health in DSCC's Resiliency Fair,” said OCFCH President Dr. Bonnie Burman. "Throughout my career, I have focused on resiliency throughout the life span and I was thrilled to learn of your interest in it.  While dementia isn’t a topic that interests everyone, it’s an area of growing concern that many participants wanted to learn more about.  In addition to thinking about loved ones who are living with the symptoms, many individuals found the information on brain health inspiring."

The balance that an individual needs between work and other aspects of life is important enough that it’s part of the DLA Strategic Plan's People and Culture Plan.  The People and Culture organization in collaboration with the Wellness Council continue to support work/life balance through future opportunities.  Contact DLA Land and Maritime's Resiliency Program Manager if you have ideas for future programs to be offered at DSCC.
