Bagram workers light up the night

By Tim Hoyle DLA Disposition Services

Defense Logistics Agency employees recently defied the darkness of the Afghan night to keep important cargo moving.

Dave Ross, DLA Disposition Services site manager at Bagram Airfield, said the recent night operations were needed to support a special request from the local Central Receiving and Shipping Point yard.

“The BAF Commander instituted a clean-sweep and the volume of containers increased dramatically at the CRSP yard,” Ross said. “The containers needed to be moved and were competing heavily for daytime transportation movement requests throughout the site.”

Ross said his team worked out a schedule to meet the base’s objectives and maximize evening transportation and movement requests. He said volunteers rotate through the evening schedule for the duration of the agreement, which was recently extended to Nov. 3. He said his team is scheduled to receive 30 containers three times a week during this period.

Team members volunteering to support the night operations include Victor Ambegia, Jeffrey Dixon, Larry Leach, Justina Luna, Mel Proulx and Jacob Suazo.
