NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
We join the Nation in celebrating Women’s Equality Day, which honors the signing of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution. This amendment marked a significant milestone in our Nation’s history by granting women the fundamental right to vote.
In 1972, President Richard Nixon designated August 26th as “Women’s Rights Day,” acknowledging the persistent efforts and advocacy of the women’s suffrage movement over many years. This day serves as an ongoing occasion to commemorate the accomplishments of women and to persist in the pursuit of gender equality.
In celebration of Women’s Equality Day, I encourage each and every one of you to reflect on the principles of freedom, equality, and respect that our great Nation stands for. This is a time to recognize the immense contributions of women throughout history, and to educate ourselves about the struggles they have faced and the victories they have achieved in their fight for equality.
