DLA Distribution celebrates Month of the Military Child

By Jessica Roman DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Almost 1.9 million children in the United States have a military parent, and April is designated as the Month of the Military Child, underscoring the important role military children play in the armed forces community.  The Month of the Military Child is an opportunity to recognize military children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifices and continued resilience.  To celebrate, the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander made a special stop to read stories in the classrooms at the New Cumberland installation’s Child Development Center on April 29.

Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix let each classroom choose a book to read, and spent time reading, conversing, and playing with the children.  Cynthia Dix, the commander’s spouse, also took the opportunity to read to a classroom.

Each classroom decorated the hallways of the Child Development Center with a theme for each branch of the military, with special photos devoted to the children of military parents.  The displays highlighted the unique contributions each service plays in supporting the United States, and allowed the children the opportunity to learn about the different ways their parents serve.
