Omar Khlifi is the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services director, South East region. Khlifi has worked for Disposition Services for almost 14 years.

Can you tell us about yourself?
I’m Omar, the new DSD South East director.

Describe your job in a sentence or two. Ensure South East region customers are provided with the best possible disposal solutions. Taking care of our most valuable resource- my staff.

What would you like to accomplish as DSD South East? During these challenging times, my main priority is the safety of all my staff while continuing to support our warfighters.

How long have you worked for the federal government including military service? 18 years

How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services? I started with DLA Disposition Services in 2007, so almost 14 years.

What is your favorite thing about your line of work? Removing customer’s challenges and helping them meet their mission needs is the most rewarding feeling in our line of work.

What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? “Never say no first.” It’s always good practice to listen more, be open minded and learn both from your subordinate and supervisors.

What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess? Modesty, never forget where you started, help and coach your staff to advance in their careers.

How would you describe your leadership style and why has it worked so well for you? Lead by example, work hard and respect all. Employees see what leaders do, set good examples, and do not hesitate to correct mistakes. Holding yourself and your team accountable is the only way to success.

Tell us how you approach change. Change is something I truly enjoy, it gives you the chance to learn more about your business and find more efficient ways to accomplish the mission. There is always room for improvements.

What keeps you motivated. Results, overcoming challenges and making improvements.

What mistakes have you seen individuals make that prevent them from being successful? Pointing out problems without being part of the solution. Make suggestions, talk to your leadership about improvements and own your processes, if something is not working well, say something and provide your ideas for a solution.

What was your first job? My first job was a pharmaceutical salesman for Pfizer. I enjoyed traveling across Morocco meeting different people.

What did you want to be when you grew up? Policeman. I have a lot of respect for law enforcement and especially what they do to help people.

What are your hobbies? Traveling the world, meeting new people and food.
