Shelter in place awareness could save lives during a CBRNE incident

September is National Preparedness Month. One of the warnings you may be given if chemical, biological, nuclear or high explosives (CBRNE) may have been released into the atmosphere is to shelter in place (SIP). This is a precaution aimed to keep you safe while remaining indoors. SIP means selecting a small, interior room, with no or few windows, and taking refuge there. It does not mean sealing off your entire office building. The Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia CBRNE Annex Plan details what you should do if an CBRNE incident occurs on DSCR.

September is Defense Logistics Agency’s Resiliency Month, and Sep. 7 was celebrated as Resiliency Day across the agency. In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the major league baseball color barrier, the United Nations voted in favor of the creation of an Independent Jewish State of Israel, the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union began, and President Harry S. Truman signed The National Security Act of 1947, creating both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of the Air Force.

Prevention key to staying ahead of Zika virus

Defense Supply Center Richmond is one of four federal installations in Central Virginia collecting mosquitoes to test for the Zika virus. Defense Logistics Agency Installation Support at Richmond’s Environmental Office is working with Kenner Army Health Clinic’s Preventive Medicine Clinic to prevent the spread (or reduce the risk) of the microcephaly causing disease in the commonwealth. Microcephaly is a medical condition in which the brain does not develop properly during pregnancy resulting in a smaller than normal head.

Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff held in Richmond

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Command Support Directorate and the Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Office hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff ceremony Sept. 16 in the Lotts Conference Center in Richmond, Virginia. Army Lt. Col. Luis Rodriguez, Exercise Support Division chief, Logistics Exercise and Simulations Directorate with the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Lee, Virginia, was special guest and spoke on the contributions Hispanics make to our nation and his personal perspectives as a Hispanic American.

Aviation employee's theme chosen for 2016 Hispanic Heritage Month

The 2016 Hispanic Heritage Month theme, “Embracing, Enriching, and Enabling America” was submitted by Defense Logistics Agency Aviation employee, Maurice Sanabria, chief, Command Programs Office in the Command Support Directorate in Richmond, Virginia. This is the second national theme win for Sanabria. His theme was also selected in 2012.

Employee Spotlight: Clara Griffin

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation employee, Clara Griffin is a customer account specialist in the Customer Operations Directorate in Richmond, Virginia. Griffin supports the Air Force’s C-5 Galaxy and the C-17 Globemaster aircraft weapon systems. As a retired Army first sergeant, responsible for logistics support to soldiers, Griffin is proud to work for the very same organization that served as a major source of supply when she was enlisted in the U.S. Army.
