Wheel Remover
Cpl. Aiden Bemis, a digital manufacturing engineer with 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, measures the width of a steering wheel column at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, April 29, 2021. Bemis provided the capability to mass produce a steering wheel remover tool that prevents damage to the steering wheel column during removal. The tool was originally designed by Staff Sgt. Kyle Owens, a motor transportation chief with Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st MLG. In 2012, after cracking multiple steering wheel columns using a slide hammer kit, he came up with the idea to drill three holes into a standard washer and weld a nut so that he could effectively remove a steering wheel from the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements and Logistics Vehicle System Replacements.
