DLA Aviation spotlight: Jeff Wyatt

By DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Name: Jeffrey L. Wyatt

Organization:  DLA Aviation at Oklahoma City, Procurement Operations

Years of Service:  15 years combined Air Force and DLA service

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? I’m a procurement contract officer and award contracts for aircraft spare parts supporting the warfighter.

What do you like most about your job?  I like the people I work around - professional, dedicated, helpful, and good solid folks.

What kind(s) of training and education helps your work performance in your current role?  Anything that permits me to learn or understand more about my craft or that of the requirements side of the house helps my performance.

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them?  I’ve done what you are currently asked to do to protect our nation - I get it.  As a result, I’ll do whatever I need to do to make sure you can succeed.

What was your first job? My first job was working on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland, renting umbrellas to the tourists.

Do you have an unfulfilled wish? I would like to attend a New York Yankee baseball game at their new stadium.

What are some of your passions outside of work?  I’m passionate about my three little doggies; we have a "Teddy Bear" which is a Bichon Frise and Shih Tzu mix, a Mal-Shi (Maltese-Shih Tzu mix) and a four-pound Maltese who thinks he's King Kong.  We volunteer as foster parents for the OKC Maltese Rescue.  Over the past two years, we've placed about 25 dogs in their forever homes.

I’m also passionate about University of Oklahoma football, driving my Corvette, hanging around the pool, and whatever my queen of 27 years decides we ought to do.

If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be?   Be fair, be consistent, and be yourself.

Who is the most influential person in your life...past or present? My father and Mr. H.K. Covell were the most influential people in my life. Mr. Covell is the deceased father of country music singer Toby Keith.  Many years ago, I met him in a small diner in Moore, Oklahoma and we struck up a friendship that lasted for years.  Being in the military, young, and away from home, Mr. Covell served as my surrogate father/mentor in a number of ways.  He was a terrific guy.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My proudest accomplishment is raising three children.

What type of music do you most enjoy?  I like old rock and roll, but especially southern rock and roll, like Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Marshall Tucker Band, etc.
