Laskodi makes inaugural visit to Pacific Command Area of Responsibility

By Jessica Roman DLA Distribution Public Affairs

In October, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. John Laskodi made his inaugural visit to the Pacific Command Area of Responsibility to tour DLA facilities, discuss customer requirements, and meet employees.  Laskodi made stops in Japan, Republic of Korea, and Guam.

In Japan, Laskodi toured DLA Distribution facilities in both Okinawa and Yokosuka, where he saw first-hand the forward-positioned stock the facilities provide to warfighters throughout the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and the Persian Gulf.  The facilities primarily provide support to the warships of the Carrier Strike Group, homeported in Yokosuka, the Expeditionary Strike Group homeported in Sasebo, U.S. Naval vessels transiting the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility, and major Department of Defense industrial shore commands and military bases.

In addition to Distribution facilities, Laskodi also toured DLA Disposition Services in the area.  Distribution and Distribution Services work closely together in supporting warfighter storage and distribution requirements.

On the next leg in the Republic of Korea, Laskodi toured Distribution operations located at Camp Carroll, Waegwan.  There, the distribution center provides forward stock positioning support and enhanced physical distribution services to the Armed Forces located in the Korean Area of Responsibility in both armistice and contingency operations.  The distribution center also breaks, sorts, consolidates, and cross-docks surface container freight, air pallets, Camp Carroll maintenance and supply activity off base shipments, and DLA Distribution Korea mission freight for direct dedicated delivery to Army Supply Support Activity customers.

Laskodi also met with DLA Pacific partners to discuss the recent implementation of regionalized commands, and how the two organizations can best support customer requirements in the region.

On the final leg of his trip in Guam, Laskodi took the opportunity to meet with employees and tour facilities.  The island is preparing to welcome additional forward-positioned troops in the coming years to prepare for shifting requirements in the area.

DLA Distribution’s Guam location is located on U.S. Naval Base Guam. The organization was established to provide forward stock positioning and enhanced physical distribution services to the military community on Guam and customers in western Pacific theater of operations. Its storage and distribution facilities are strategically positioned to reduce transportation and customer wait time. As part of its mission, the organization provides tailored distribution services through the site's Material Processing Center, which serves as a centralized receipt activity for afloat customers in the Guam area of responsibility.  The organization also prepositions Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief items in an event of a disaster or request for assistance in the Asia/Pacific region.
