RICHMOND, Virginia –
The DLA Distribution Richmond, Va., Continuing Government Activity Quality Team has been selected as the winner of the Andrew L. Leitzel DLA Distribution Annual Contract Quality Assurance Program Commendable Service Award for 2015.
In conjunction with DLA Distribution J-3, the Richmond CGA Quality Team was tasked to develop a plan to re-warehouse parachutes and energy dissipating pads from an offsite location to the Defense Supply Center Richmond, Va. Performing this work in-house with DLA Installation Support at Richmond resulted in over $120,000 in transportation savings versus using contract transportation.
The CGA Quality Team recommended leasing three 53-foot trailers and requested a tractor driver from DLA Installation Support Services. The cost to lease three dry van trailer for six months was $4,770. Resulting in a next savings of over $115,000 in transportation costs.
Recognizing their enviable performance, Richmond, working with Distribution staff, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., and others brought additional workload to DLA’s Hazardous Center of Excellence to assist the Enterprise with some challenging hazardous material, formerly managed by GSA.
Additionally, the team worked with Oklahoma City’s Air Logistics Center to obtain two primer kits which were threatening to cause a work stoppage on the KC-135 line. DLA Troop Support provided disposition instructions on this material which was held solely in Richmond. Realizing this material was urgently required by the USAF the team called upon DLA Distribution Richmond.
“This group of professionals developed a detailed JHA to safely perform the work in the division’s paint booth with in-line respirators and Tyvek suits,” said DLA Distribution Richmond’s director, John Pearson. “As a result of their collective efforts this resulted in over 2,000 bottles being remediated and returned to the Richmond’s service provider for issue.”
