Excellence in Government: DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa team earns gold

By Michael Tuttle DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa

A Defense Logistics Agency team based in Germany has earned a 2019 Excellence in Government Award from the Philadelphia Federal Executive Board.

The Internal Logistics Operations and Readiness team at DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa was named a gold medal recipient for Outstanding Administrative Support Accomplishment during a ceremony May 9. DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa is a forward element of the Philadelphia-headquartered DLA Troop Support and supports customers throughout U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Central Command.

Awards were presented in 17 categories during the ceremony, held at the William J. Green Building, named after the former U.S. Congressman and Philadelphia mayor. The ceremony “pays homage to the unsung heroes of government — the career staff who are indispensable to the seamless and effective operation of government but may never see their name on a plaque, let alone a building,” Jamie R. Williamson, Philadelphia FEB 2nd Vice Chair, wrote in a welcome letter to attendees.

The Internal Logistics Operations and Readiness team supports the workforce at DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa with numerous services: human resources, finance, travel, training support, employee recognition, vehicle management, strategic planning and communications. And they support team members in Kaiserslautern, Germany and other locations throughout the region.

The team members are: Janis Spear, Anja Klingenberg, Kimberlee Colip, Reagen Nossett, Hartmut Schwarz and Michael Tuttle

According to the award nomination:

The Internal Logistics Operations and Readiness team at DLA Troop Support Europe and Africa has emerged as an invaluable resource for the organization and serves as a key part of our mission to support the warfighter. The team goes above and beyond the day-to-day support of financial and human resource management to deliver strategic guidance. Their exceptional performance is vital to DLA Troop Support Europe and Africa due to the high turnover rate of our personnel and the amount of travel required to support warfighters in three geographic combatant commands in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Several other DLA Troop Support Europe & Africa employees were also nominated for FEB awards:

  • Gabrielle Marucci – Outstanding Administrative Support Accomplishment
  • Lena Berlitz – Service Excellence
  • Sabrina Frank – Fresh New Hire
  • Red Sea Support Team: Miriam Tannenbaum, Air Force Capt. Matthew Thorne, Ada C. Torres Vega, Christine Morgan, Raphael Rippo, Bridget Padua – Improved Federal Image

The FEBs were created in 1961 to foster communication among federal agencies outside of Washington D.C., and the awards ceremony was held as part of Public Service Recognition Week. Thirty-four federal agencies in Philadelphia participated in the award program.
