Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month Spotlight: Khoa Nguyen

DLA Energy Public Affairs

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month – a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States and a way to pay tribute to the generations who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success. In this series of stories, we honor Asian or Pacific Islander Defense Logistics Agency Energy employees.

My name is:  Khoa Nguyen

I am: Administrative Support Assistant for the DLA Energy South-West Pacific team, and I am Vietnamese.

Describe your job in a sentence: I perform office support related duties including personnel actions, correspondence, filing, copying and travel review.

How long have you worked at DLA Energy? Five years.

What is your favorite thing about working for DLA Energy? The Pacific team is thoroughly professional and supportive.

What are your best memories of working here? I enjoy the challenges associated with learning and understanding DLA policies and procedures to ensure full and correct administrative support is provided to the DLA Energy South-West Pacific team.

How do you make a difference? As administrative support, I assist team personnel in filing travel requests and vouchers, submitting Aircraft and Personnel Automated Clearance System requests, and performing collateral duties in the areas of safety, key control, office management and physical security.

What is the one thing you’d like others to know about your heritage? As an Asian, I take my job seriously and do my best to ensure my co-workers and chain of command appreciate my efforts and that my performance always reflects positively of Asian Americans overall.

Why is it important to you that we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month? Celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander heritage shows an appreciation of our various ethnicities, an understanding of our shared history, and recognition of our similarities despite our diverse cultures.
