Women’s History Month Spotlight: Chaletta McCoy

By DLA Public Affairs DLA Public Affairs

Editor’s note: The Defense Logistics Agency recognizes March as Women’s History Month. In honor of women’s contributions to the agency’s global mission, DLA is highlighting female employees who work day in and day out to provide logistics support to America’s warfighters.

My name is: Chaletta McCoy

I am: Staff director for the DLA Human Resources Human Capital Program Development Team

Describe your job in a sentence: I direct the development of human capital strategies and initiatives such as strategic workforce planning and organizational culture by providing program guidance, oversight and evaluation through coordination with management, HR specialists and various internal and external DLA customers.

How long have you worked at DLA? 26 years.

What is your favorite thing about working for DLA? The career development opportunities available to the DLA workforce, such as rotational programs, executive development programs, build your roadmap to success leadership forum, and in-person and online training. I have participated in many of these and they have greatly assisted in getting me to where I am now. Also, as a staff director, I have had several enterprise rotational program assignees from across the DLA enterprise work in my office over the years. It’s a great opportunity for the assignees to get exposure to other work experiences and build connections.

What are your best memories of working here? The DLA Human Resources Thanksgiving luncheons at the Headquarters over the years. It’s not just about the food, but the camaraderie that is cultivated within our directorate. During the Thanksgiving luncheons, our senior leaders serve food to the workforce. It’s a way of showing our thanks for the continued great work our employees perform year after year.

How do you make a difference? Helping others in their career development by being a mentor, informally and formally. The development of others is important to me. I am blessed to have had mentors throughout my career who took the time to listen to me, and shared their knowledge and experiences with me. Everyone needs an advocate.

What does Women’s History Month mean to you? A time of remembering the sacrifices and contributions of so many women throughout history. I am appreciative of their sacrifices that have provided many opportunities for women throughout the world.
