DLA Distribution presents Security Civilian of the Year award to Tyrell Rice

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Tyrell Rice, security officer at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Anniston, Alabama, was awarded the Security Civilian of the Year award for actions taken to better ensure the continued safety of workers and sensitive information.

Rice developed specific procedures for vendors – like maintenance and janitorial staff – to obtain visitor passes, and for those same vendors to report when someone should be removed from the access list. The enhancements made to the policies by Rice allow for better control of access to DDAA facilities.

In coordination with DDAA Human Resources and the appropriate operation security teams, Rice completed security briefings and training with personnel to ensure compliance with Operations Security standards.

Rice took the lead in procuring a paper shredding contract to ensure that all documents were properly shredded to avoid any possible breach of OPSEC, further ensuring the security of DDAA.

Rice also built relationships with co-located police forces on Anniston Army Depot to ensure a smooth communication and understanding of each group’s unique policies and procedures.

The work Rice has done to ensure a safe and secure work environment, and support efforts to maintain OPSEC, is a critical step in DLA’s mission to always place the warfighter first.
