DLA Distribution Commanding General's Thanksgiving Day message

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Distribution Teammates,

Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on the many blessings we have experienced throughout the year.

While this year has seen its challenges, together, as an organization, we’ve navigated through the unchartered waters of this pandemic while continuing our focus on supporting our military. Over the last several months, we’ve answered the call to assist our nation’s whole of government COVID-19 support operations. When I reflect back on this year, I’m extremely thankful for our Distribution workforce. Your resiliency and ingenuity in dealing with these challenges and expanded mission has been nothing less than extraordinary--and you continue to answer the call!

This year it is unfortunate that that many areas of the country, including areas where we live and work, are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases. As a logistics support agency – over 9,000 people strong – the Distribution workforce is not immune, so it’s critically important that we all continue to understand and faithfully follow safety and health protocols, including social distancing, wearing masks and washing our hands.

With over 1 million new cases reported in the U.S. over a seven-day period, case numbers and hospital rates rapidly increasing, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) states that the safest way to celebrate this Thanksgiving holiday is to celebrate at home with the people that live with us. Gatherings with family and friends who are not in our household can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu. I encourage everyone to check the CDC website www.cdc.gov as you plan your events to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your family. If we all do our part, we will get through this together.

I know Thanksgiving may look different for us this year, but no matter what the day brings, I ask that you all pause to be thankful — for your families, your friends, your co-workers, and for the men and women we support who are out there fighting for our freedom every day.

Thank you all for everything you do every day for the Warfighters and our federal partners. Keep striving for excellence and look after one another. Stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
