DLA prepares to take temperature on agency culture

By DLA Human Resources

Starting Aug. 21 all Defense Logistics Agency employees will be invited to participate in the DLA Culture and Climate Survey.

The survey enables staff to share their personal experiences to improve the workplace. Results will inform leaders of employees’ perspectives on culture, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Culture and Climate Survey is an important resource in understanding what makes DLA a great place to work,” DLA Vice Director Brad Bunn said. “When everyone participates, we can better pinpoint those areas we excel in and refine the ones that need improvement.”

The survey is administered by Denison Consulting. Responses are confidential and identifying information such as employees’ work location and position remain private to encourage honest feedback.

DLA last conducted the survey in 2020, and the response rate was 68%.

Prior culture surveys led to several changes throughout the agency. DLA Installation Management, for example, established several cross-organizational collaboration initiatives in addition to the bimonthly Chat with the Chief. The directorate also increased training opportunities for its staff.

Unlike the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, the DLA Culture and Climate Survey focuses exclusively on DLA and aspects of its organizational performance, work experiences and leadership.

Denison analyzes DLA’s responses against a database of more than 1,000 organizations worldwide. Analyses provide insights into the agency’s progress toward achieving a high-performance business culture.

Bunn affirmed DLA leaders’ commitment to driving organizational change and enhancing the employee experience.

“Our people are our greatest strength,” Bunn added. “They are instrumental not only in achieving mission success, but also in defining our values and building a culture that supports the needs of our entire workforce.”
