DLA Distribution commander delivers holiday message

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs DLA Distribution

As we reach the peak of the holiday season, Mr. Knight and I want to take a moment to express how thankful we are for the DLA Distribution workforce. We are humbled by your commitment and continued dedication to performance while supporting our nation’s Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Guardians serving around the world.

The end of the year is a time to reflect on, and celebrate, our successes of the past year and to look forward to the year ahead. In FY23, DLA Distribution successfully integrated the Warehouse Management System at 10 distribution centers and one Recruitment Training Center. We managed $136B in inventory across more than 50 locations while performing counts on 100% (2.2M NIINs) with an inventory accuracy rate of 98.8% using the measure of eaches and 95% by NIIN. Incredible!

Supporting our whole of government partners, we shipped 25K line items in support of the wildfire mission and delivered 3.4M seasonal influenza vaccines to service members, their dependent and Veterans.

This incredible workforce closed over 100K supply discrepancy reports and storage quality control reports comprised of 13.7M items with a $8.5B value.

Through exceptional teamwork between our J5 and distribution centers Richmond and San Joaquin, we transitioned the Hazardous Materials storage and distribution mission, consisting of 4,099 STOs, from Richmond to San Joaquin – sunsetting the $5M per year service contact as part of network optimization.

Additionally, as part of network optimization efforts, we removed 10K inactive DLA-owned NIIN’s from DLA Distribution Bahrain, reducing DLA’s footprint and reducing inventory from ~20.3k to ~10.5k NIINs.

Lastly, we successfully closed out FY 2023 with $1,228.5M in obligations and $1,673M in revenue. Expenses and Net Operating Result were below projections and will positively impact future year rates. DLA Distribution exceeded savings targets of $154M compared to the PBR21 baseline for FY 2023.

The above is just a very few of the many successes we as a team accomplished this FY! 2024 is just around the corner with new opportunities – and Team Distribution is at the ready!

For many this holiday season, there will be empty seats around the table whether it be military deployments or loss of loved ones. Please keep those families in your thoughts. Look out for one another and check on neighbors who may be experiencing the holidays alone. Who knows, you may be their only contact.

Please enjoy the upcoming holidays with family and friends. Enjoy old traditions and make new memories.

From the Chase and Knight families, Happy Holidays and thank you for your service!
