Corpus Christi commander receives Defense Meritorious Service Medal

Army Lt. Col. Ryan D. Fearnow has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his achievements while serving as commander, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas.

Since taking over command in June 2013, Fearnow worked tirelessly to cement the partnership between the organization and major customer Corpus Christi Army Depot.

He injected himself into CCAD’s planning meetings in support of their relocation to a new maintenance facility, the Dynamic Component Repair Facility, to ensure that Distribution Materiel Handling Equipment could easily access and support the new operations.

He worked to coordinate the packaging of both UH-60 and UH-64 blades at CCAD’s point of production, eliminating the ferrying of items between DLA Distribution and CCAD, one of the CCAD commander’s top priorities.  He also worked with CCAD to create a repair program for the “turtle can,” a container highly susceptible to rust.  By refurbishing the item, which is often reused, Fearnow and his team effectively slowed product degradation, and saved the customer money.

Under Fearnow’s leadership, DLA Distribution Corpus Christi implemented multiple cost savings initiatives for its customers.  His team was responsible for generating over one million dollars in revenue by relocating items from Corpus Christi to Distribution’s site in Barstow, Calif., where they could be more efficiently stored and kept away from the elements at a lower cost.

He also met with item managers to divest the command from non-moving, service-owned items, cleaning out the distribution center’s attic and saving the customer storage costs.

“Ryan worked closely with our customers to ensure Distribution was providing world-class support while developing cost solutions.  He was unwilling to sacrifice quality for speed, and worked hard to create that delicate balance of efficiency and effectiveness,” said DLA Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix.
