Richmond price analyst named DLA Aviation’s February Employee of the Month

By Leon Moore DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s February Employee of the Month is Dawn Hampton. She serves as a price analyst for DLA Aviation’s Procurement Process Support Directorate’s Pricing Division in Richmond, Virginia. DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Allan Day presented Hampton the award during a ceremony March 28.

John Billingsley is a branch chief within the Pricing Division and nominated Hampton for the award. In his write-up, Billingsley stated Hampton recognized, while conducting a Fair Market Price analysis for a fire seal, that the expiring contract contained unreasonable escalation rates as high as 10.8 percent per year. Compared to what actually occurred in the marketplace, the contractor’s unit prices were grossly overstated.

“As a result of Dawn’s efforts, the buyer was able to negotiate prices roughly 25 percent less than proposed by the contractor and even less than DLA was paying in 2012. Over the five-year life of the contract, DLA will save potentially up to $150, 000,” said Billingsley. “DLA will continue to realize savings as long as this fire seal is purchased thanks to Dawn’s efforts.”

Hampton said she is humbled by the recognition. “I’ve only been in the Pricing Division for about 18 months. It’s an incredible team of people and they really deserve the credit for teaching me how to do pricing right,” she said.
