PHILADELPHIA –
Awarding contracts to small businesses, resulting in best value support to customers, earned a Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support contracting officer agency-wide recognition.
Evan Eisenberg, from Clothing and Textiles, was awarded the DLA Acquisition Professional Supporting Small Business Award for planning and awarding two contracts for the Navy Working Uniform in fiscal 2015.
One award was to a woman-owned small business with a maximum contract value of $106 million, according to his nomination packet. The other was to a service-disabled veteran-owned small business with a maximum contract value of $48 million.
DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Charles Hamilton presented Eisenberg with a commander’s coin and congratulations letter March 31 for his achievement.
“You can take great pride in knowing that your hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence have paid off and are recognized by the DLA leaders,” Hamilton wrote.
Eisenberg has worked with small businesses during his entire 30-year government career. Eisenberg has worked at DLA for 20 years and has served in his current role for three years.
Eisenberg works independently within C&T’s field clothing division, conducting market research, planning, negotiating, awarding and administering complex, high-dollar, high-volume contracts, the nomination states.
“I basically do my job like I would do with any vendor, regardless of size,” Eisenberg said. “In certain cases, (small business) contracts do require a little more hands-on administration, (including) weekly calls and sometimes daily calls.”
The majority of C&T contracts are small business, Eisenberg said. The Small Business Association defines a small business as having less than 750 employees.
He routinely helps suppliers resolve conflicts, including meeting technical requirements, transportation issues and invoicing procedures, his nomination states.
C&T Field Clothing Division Chief Steve Merch considers Eisenberg an asset to the supply chain.
“Evan is professional, he’s very thorough in what he does,” Merch said. “He works closely with the vendors to make sure that the contracts are a true ‘win-win’ for the vendors and our customers as well.”
