Following nearly two months of facilitating the shipment of critical supplies ultimately distributed amongst those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania commander Army Col. Brad Eungard is praising the efforts of his team in meeting the mission while maintaining green metrics in its day to day support to the global warfighter.

With nearly 40 employees deployed to Intermediate Staging Bases in Texas, Alabama and North Carolina to provide on the ground support to FEMA and other government entities moving supplies to hurricane disaster zones, DLA Distribution Susquehanna was still responsible for shipping items to support the relief effort while sending out large volumes of critical items to keep DoD units at full strength and ready for combat operations.

Eungard says from the beginning of the mission, employees were dedicated to helping in any way possible.  “Many of members of the team voiced a desire to help those recovering from Hurricane Harvey or in the path of Hurricane Irma.  Some had family and friends that had already been impacted by Harvey, while some had family and friends in the Caribbean Islands awaiting Irma’s storm path with concern for their loved ones.”

He continued, saying “I knew at the time that the team’s character and ownership beliefs would embolden us to do everything possible to meet those needs for families and friends.   I asked everyone to dig deep and give their best as we navigated the hurricanes and while continuing to support the warfighters around the world.”

As he has done throughout his entire tour with the distribution center, Eungard continued to stress that the team strive for excellence at every opportunity and remember the organization’s CORE beliefs: Character, Ownership, Respect, and Excellence.

“This team continually expressed some of the desired character qualities within our CORE beliefs.  I’ve witnessed the best of these qualities over the last weeks.  [The team’s] unity of effort, heroic response to critical missions (DDXX, shipments of cots to shelters, etc.), and consistent excellence in supporting support the Warfighter – all were remarkable indicators of tremendous character.”
