NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa., Dec. 22, 2017 —
DLA Distribution Team,
As we enter the 2017 holiday season, I want to take a moment to express how thankful I am for being part of this great DLA Distribution team. I am extremely proud of the phenomenal work this team accomplishes every day… supporting our customers around the world. Just one example among many, the support DLA Distribution provided during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria was absolutely extraordinary! We deployed all three of our DLA Distribution Expeditionary Distribution (DDXX) Teams, augmented with DoD Civilian volunteers and military, including mobilizing our new Reserve Component Expeditionary Distribution Support Battalions (EDSB) to operate FEMA Incident Staging Bases in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina. Additionally, our workforce worked around the clock providing supplies for the deployment of US Navy ships to Puerto Rico including the USNS Comfort and coordinated the transportation for over 20 million meals, 40 million liters of water, and assorted relief supplies … almost 4000 truckloads of material that would have stretched 37 miles if parked end-to-end. Our workforce is resilient and all this support was accomplished while recovering from damage to several our own facilities at Corpus Christi and Jacksonville and simultaneously supporting wildfires in the western U.S. No matter how difficult the task, DLA Distribution employees continue delivering the Right Things…at the Right Place, at the Right Time!
We have a very strong safety program at DLA Distribution. If you travel this season, please employ the same safety mindset in your personal life that we use in the workplace. Remember the importance of driving at speeds safe for local weather conditions, use seat belts, do not drive while tired, and use designated drivers. When driving, be alert, allow ample time to reach your destination, and always anticipate the unexpected. Be sure to stay safe at home by maintaining fresh trees watered, checking lights for damage, and keeping decorations away from candles or heaters to prevent fires. Make safety a priority because you are all important.
With the holiday season upon us, take the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends. While doing so, I encourage you to pause and remember that we have Warfighters deployed in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and around the globe who serve and sacrifice so that we may enjoy our freedom in the company of our friends and loved ones. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers as they spend the holidays away from their loved ones.
On behalf of Ms. Gonzales and myself, and from my family to yours … thank you for what you do every day. DLA Distribution, I am proud to be on your team!
