DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, along with DLA Distribution’s Multicultural Committee, celebrated the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s., during the second annual MLK program on Jan. 9.

The theme, “A day on, not a day off,” best captures the essence of King’s life. He was a man who devoted his life to the betterment of the world around him. He once said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ’what are you doing for others?’”

DLA Distribution Susquehanna, commander, Army Col. Brad Eungard welcomed everyone in attendance, “I’m reminded of the second line of DDSP’s Command Vision which is focused on achieving Unity of Effort in the execution of our mission while also recognizing the strength of diversity in our workforce.  To honor Dr. King, let us truly work and live together well.”

Eungard then introduced the keynote speaker, Reverend Phillip Deal, pastor of the Beulah Baptist Church in Steelton, Pennsylvania. “Rev. Deal has a passion for leadership and organizational management. He is a man who recognizes the value of character and the importance of mentorship.”

Deal spoke a great in length about what kind of man King was. “MLK stressed the importance of working together, he felt we all had more in common than we believe.”

Deal, is a native of Princess Anne, Maryland, received his Master of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C.

The program also included a video presentation by Bruce Mayo and a presentation of “Drum Major for Justice,” by Jeremiah Christian.

The event concluded with songs performed by the Susquehanna Township High School Gospel Choir.
