DLA Distribution commander Navy Supply Corps Rear Adm. Kevin Jones recently made his first trip to DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas, which serves as the primary wholesale distribution point for major components to support helicopter repair missions for Department of Defense and Foreign Military Sales customers worldwide.

The visit kicked off with a command brief from site commander Army Lt. Col. Dan Bidetti on the distribution’s mission and included presentations from the site’s DLA Aviation partner and primary customer Corpus Christi Army Depot.

Jones then hosted a town hall for distribution center employees where he recognized several employees with awards and discussed his command philosophy.  Focusing on customer, culture and command, he emphasized that, as the distribution center’s most important resources, employees need to stay safe, particularly in the midst of hurricane season.

In the afternoon, Jones toured the distribution center’s facilities during which he received a briefing on the site’s implementation of its commercial, off-the-shelf Warehouse Management System (COTS-WMS) and reviewed the COTS-WMS production area.

The system, the first of its kind within the DLA network, is designed to offer flexible, automated support for processing various goods movements and for managing stocks within the distribution center.  It replaced the Distribution Standard System to align with current industry standards, streamline processes, reduce redundant systems and improve reporting capabilities and communication between DLA Distribution and its customers.

The day concluded with a final review of the day’s events and a meeting between Jones, Bidetti and host Naval Air Station Corpus Christi commander Capt.  Philip Brock.   Together, the three celebrated their alma mater, Norwich University, commemorating the meeting with a photo.
