Mother Teresa once said, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then just feed one.” At Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, generous employees give as much as they can by participating in the annual Angel Tree program.

Defense Logistics Agency employees were out in merry force on Dec. 6 to spread holiday cheer during the annual Angel Tree program. Employees gave of their time and resources to adopt 102 children from local schools, including Bensley and Bellwood Elementary schools and Meadowbrook High School in Chesterfield County, and G.H. Reid Elementary School in Richmond.

“I love to witness the generosity of our workforce every year,” said Pamela Frederick, Change Management Specialist, Career Development Branch, Command Support Directorate, DLA Aviation. “Everyone is always excited and eager to participate. I picture the children’s faces as they open up all of the wonderful gifts that they probably didn’t think they would receive.”

For many years, DSCR employees have supported children in need from their schools for the holidays. The annual Angel Tree program kicks off by coordination through the schools and the DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office staff. Along with volunteer employees, they set up an adoption table in the cafeteria every year, making a promise to provide Christmas for these “angels.” This promise includes a variety of gifts for each local child. Over 700 gifts were dropped off at this year’s event.

This is the seventh year that Frederick has volunteered. “It’s an awesome program that I hope DLA Aviation continues to do for years to come,” she said.

Collection and distribution of the gifts to the schools are spearheaded by DLA Installation Operations Richmond Fire and Emergency Services, in conjunction with the fire department’s holiday safety campaign.

While participants dropped off gifts, firefighters shared their holiday fire safety message by providing recipients with fire safety literature.
